Frank N. Gentile Before attending the University of Pittsburgh and Temple University, Frank spent his childhood either in or surrounded by trees. After graduating with a degree in science, he began his career working in agricultural research, first in quality control and later doing synthesis chemistry in a laboratory environment. Every lab consisted of two desks, two laboratory benches, and two hoods. The thing they forgot... windows. It was time to explore other possibilities. After transferring to the research farm as a research agronomist, Frank returned to Temple University to study Horticulture and Landscape Design. He then left his comer office in the corporate world to begin a career in Horticulture for $3.95 per hour. Frank began as a laborer, and then became a foreman & grower for one of the best known and most respected landscape companies in the Delaware Valley. In addition to installing spectacular gardens, he grew plants for the Philadelphia Urban Green Project and the Philadelphia Flower Show. In the following years, Frank worked as a landscape designer before partnering in a landscape company, starting a perennial nursery(apple hill nurseries), and teaching in Temple University's Landscape Design department. Later, Frank managed a range of greenhouses for a well known Philadelphia florist, worked as a landscape designer for one of the area's premier garden centers and worked for a company specializing in estate maintenance. With 30 years of experience in all aspects of horticulture and landscape design, and as a "Pennsylvania Certified Horticulturist", it became time to do things his way... and apple hill garden design began.
